R-Directed Thinking

I love the way that Daniel Pink has changed the verbiage from left brained and right brained to L-directed and R-directed thinking. I've always been told that I was more of a right brained thinker and I've felt that I was at a disadvantage because of it. Pink seems to think that because of Asia, abundance, and automation there will be a greater need for R-directed thinkers. My daughter's birthday cake shown above is a great example of R-directed thinking. She is into drama and wants to star for Disney one day. Actors follow around the subjects that they will be playing to become more empathetic for the role. They try to view things through their eyes. The six senses that Pink discusses in his book A Whole New Mind are: Design, Story, Symphony, Empathy, Play, and Meaning. Acting involves using design, story, play, and empathy at the very least. I looked past the political undertones of the book and the "I don't need God to be spiritual" intonations to view Pink's work to be interesting and useful.

  1. Great start on your blog, Ronald! I wouldn't have guessed that you're more R-directed, so I'll be watching more carefully.

  2. Hi Ron,

I totally echo your sentiments about the theme of spirituality without God. However, I have not been as capable (or maybe the correct word is willing) to look past the pc realm of viewing spirituality as some self-induced state of "deepness" because suddenly you want more from the world than it has to offer. I went on a similar rant on my blog. LOL Glad to know that I am not the only one who feels this way.
