Symphony

As we develop a stronger sense of symphony, we will discover how our world interacts and overlaps. Pink states in his book, A Whole New Mind, that “the boundary crossers” will “develop expertise in multiple spheres”. It is so easy to stay with what is familiar. An overused cliché is “out of the box thinking”, but that will soon be the norm. When we identify problems of global proportion, we will need to connect unconventional ideas to discover the solution. People will need to think like Edison, Franklin, and Carver. We will need to invent and discover to continue to keep pace with global growth. This is really important when we think about Pink and his explanation of the three “A’s”. We need to have a strong grasp of abundance, Asia, and automation in order to survive in the future.

  1. As I continue to read A Whole New Mind and peruse related books and articles, I am continually asking the question, does this focus on technology not lead to further Alienation from the most significant aspects of Life? Will the leaders of tomorrow use the knowledge of the interconnectedness between L-directed reasoning and R-directed aptitudes to discuss and resolve global issues?

  2. You know what's crazy is that the students that "fall between the cracks" (another over used cliché) are normally those who are already equipped with most of the six senses Pink describes! They are artistic in some form or fashion, bored with the left-brained tactics pounded into their daily lives, and to this point told that they will not succeed! Little do they know – because it is scarcely understood by the majority of educators - they have exactly what they need to become the leaders (and most successful people) in America. We need to recognize these children, encourage them, and nurture their gifts… for they are our future!
