Concepts
When we teach with concepts in mind, we are helping students to learn. It's been said that "the world is flat" so specific content will not transfer to different cultures. Whe the learning is conceptualized, it allows students to connect all of the information they encounter under different concepts. It facilitates the learning process.

I agree. We should re-write the state standards so that they are more concept-based and less fact-based. Concepts travel through different contexts much easier than facts.
ReplyDeleteI am a firm believer in concept teaching and agree with you and Peter that we should rewrite the standards to reflect this idea. Concept teaching helps students make their own connections and construct knowledge that makes sense to them.
